DETECTIVE COMICS #809
7/10
Part I of War Crimes, which was really started in the final "Batgirl/Robin" story in Batman Allies Secret Files 2005. Basic plot is that the media is sniffing into the demise of Stephanie Brown, aka Spoiler, aka Robin, during the War Games crossover, and someone is setting up Batman for the fall. By the end, the Joker is revealed as the set up man.
I'm a bit ambivalent about this one. In one sense, it's a nice diversion from the Infinite Crisis build-up, which I am quite enjoying. In another sense, though, one wonders just how much this story arc will matter to Batman's overall character in light of what he is going through in the buildup to Infinite Crisis. In a couple of months when all Haded breaks loose in the world of heroes, a media punk looking into Stephanie Brown won't really worry Bruce Wayne all that much.
Still, this is a nice, classic Batman story that attempts to build on the massive Wargames crossover last year. In that way, it succeeds. But given everything else going on in the DC Universe right now, this didn't really wow me. One thing I cannot wait for, though, and that's to find out who the "Burn man" is.

In the end, I'm sure the Stephanie investigation won't matter. But I like the story set in the post-Wargames, pre-Crisis time. Since DET COM has been out of continuity for months anyway, that didn't really bug me.
